Statue of Liberty Nebula | NGC 3576
The Statue of Liberty Nebula is a glowing region of gas and dust located about 9,000 light-years away in the southern constellation Carina. Spanning roughly 100 light-years, it lies within the Carina-Sagittarius arm, one of the Milky Way’s most active spiral arms for star formation. The nebula gets its nickname from a dust structure that closely resembles the Statue of Liberty. NGC 3576 was first observed by John Herschel in 1834.
Imaged in BVR filters for approximately 4 hours, using 120-second exposures taken over March 30th and 31st, 2025.
