Lagoon Nebula | M8
Located about 4,000 light-years away in the constellation Sagittarius, the Lagoon Nebula is a vast stellar nursery spanning over 100 light-years across. Easily visible with binoculars as a hazy patch in the Milky Way, this emission nebula glows pink due to hydrogen gas energized by young, hot stars. At its heart lies the open cluster NGC 6530, surrounded by dense clouds where new stars are forming.
Imaged in BVR over three and a half hours in 60-second exposures March 19th, 2025.
